We are not going to publish a price list, because a number invented without seeing your bathroom is worthless and every honest contractor knows it. What we can do is lay out the full structure of what a traditional tiled bathroom remodel costs in Palm Beach County, including the parts that do not appear on the initial quote.
The line items you expect
Any reasonable tile quote will include demolition labor, disposal, substrate preparation, a waterproofing membrane, tile material, setting materials, tile-setting labor, grouting, sealing, plumbing adaptation, and fixtures. These are the visible costs, and a good contractor prices them accurately.
The line items that show up later
Here is where tile budgets actually break. Demolition is a discovery process, and you cannot price a discovery in advance.
- Substrate repair. Once the tile is off, you find out what the old grout has been doing for fifteen years. Soft greenboard, rotted studs, or a failed mortar bed all have to be rebuilt before anything new goes on. This is the most common change order in bathroom remodeling and one of the largest.
- Plumbing surprises. Older Palm Beach County properties turn up galvanized supply lines, cast iron waste, or a valve body no longer available in parts. None of that is visible until the wall is open.
- Dumpster and disposal. A container plus its permit, and on a condo, sometimes a building fee or an elevator protection charge on top.
- Dust remediation. Tile demolition generates respirable crystalline silica, which OSHA regulates for good reason. Proper containment costs money. Skipping it means fine dust distributed through your air handler and into every room, and a duct cleaning bill afterwards.
- Timeline overruns. Every cure stage is a dependency. One delayed material or one failed inspection pushes everything behind it.
The costs that never appear on any quote
These are real even though nobody invoices you for them.
Two weeks without your bathroom. If it is your only full bath, that means using a half bath, a guest bath, or in some cases a hotel. For an investor it means two weeks of carrying cost with no rent arriving.
Disruption. Crews in the house daily, noise for hours, dust everywhere, and no ability to have anyone over. For a retired homeowner spending most of the day at home, this is not a footnote.
The maintenance annuity. This is the one almost nobody prices in. Grout needs resealing every twelve to eighteen months for the life of the shower. Whether you pay someone or do it yourself, you have signed up for a recurring obligation on the day the job finishes. Over fifteen years that is ten or more resealing cycles, plus eventual regrouting.
How the panel route compares
A one-day SPC conversion removes several of these categories rather than reducing them.
- No demolition of walls means no discovery phase, so the quoted price is the price. This is the single biggest financial difference.
- No dumpster and no disposal permit.
- No silica dust and therefore no containment or duct cleaning.
- One day of labor instead of five to ten.
- No resealing for the life of the wall, so the maintenance annuity is zero.
Panel material can cost more per square foot than budget ceramic tile. The installed total generally lands well below a tiled equivalent, and the gap widens considerably against mid-range porcelain or natural stone.
How to compare quotes properly
Ask every contractor the same four questions. What happens to the price if the substrate is damaged? Is disposal included? How many days will the bathroom be unusable? And what maintenance does the finished surface require, on what schedule, for how long? The answers to those four will tell you more about the real cost than the headline figure will.
